Possibly Getting My First Betta Tomorrow -- Advice?

As always, thanks so much for the input everyone!

My little guy seems to be doing well right now. I've had a few trying moments throughout the 4-5 days I've had him (the worst being my heater broke), but he's active now, and loves coming up to the glass to stare at me when I'm working on my computer.

@GuppyGoddess - I did acclimate him. In retrospect, I think he may have been a little disoriented, because he'd been in a little jar at the pet store for a few weeks, and then all of a sudden he had a ten gallon tank all to himself. That stick-on-thermometer is a great idea! I've been using a giant, stainless steel pot so I can heat it on the stove if I need to warm the water a little more. This should be ok, right?

@Ethan -- Thanks! Besides the water changes which I've been doing more often, I've been doing just what you've suggested.

@AmazonFTW -- It was kind of a complicated situation. I already had fish in my original tank cycling it (this was before I found out about FISHLESS cycles ::headdesk::)Yeah, I actually have him in a 10 gal right now. Were you implying I needed to go bigger?

victorybear, I think what Amazon was trying to say is why buy another tank that won't be cycled either to put the betta in until his 5gal was cycled. He would be subjected to ammonia either way, so why not just have him in the bigger tank that has the heater and filter and all that, and is already started into the cycle? I started to ask the same thing and then saw that you'd put him in a 10gal and changed what I was going to say. :p
