I know someone that has these cichlids. Thats what she thinks they are called. Im going to be getting some, but just want to do some research first. They are a few months old. They look like the yellow lab/electric cichlids except they dont have the black. They are all yellow. Some have one or two white spots on there back fin. Its not ick, its part of the coloring and larger. Does this sound like those? She did say the mother kept them in her mouth. I did not see her. If it is, what other kind of fish can I put in with them. I wanted to get a few angels. Do you have to keep africans with there own species or can i get the new world ones also. Its a 55 us gallon tank. Im new to the tropical fish. Ive had plenty of live bearers and gouromi's. Any help would be great. Thanks

African Cichlids (not kribs or rams) would be a no no with angels. Angels and Cichlids are both very aggressive, territorial fish and one species in the tank would prevail while the other would not. Most likely the Cichlids would bully the Angels to death.

Click in my sig where it says African Cichlid Index to view different species of Cichlids.

Are there any other types of fish I can put in with these? If possible I would like to have a veriety of different colors. Thanks

Rams would probably be one of the only kind of Cichlid that would be able to live safely with angels.

Any Apistogramma would do well with angels. Discus do well with angels. Depending on the size tank, kribs do well with angels. Keyholes do well with angels. There are quite a few out there that will go with angels. But labs, only other Africans.

What about the yellow cichlids. What kind of fish can you have with those? I dont they they are the yellow lab cichlids, i seen some at petsmarts today about the same size as the ones im getting and those ones already have the black stripe starting on the top fin, where mine dont show any sign of a black stripe starting.

The fish I have, have vertical stripes of a different shade of yellow. If I did it right i put in a link of what they look like, but without the black. My link

My link Maybe this one will work.

I know the one in the picture is. But the ones i have do not have the black stripe on the fins. Could it just be because they are young? They show no sign of getting a darker stripe either.

You can get Labs without the black bars, they do not need to have it.

Vertical striping could be a result of stress, weak breeding or cross breeding.
