ok, well here's my newest (not sure if that's a real word or not but anyways), male Betta. I got him Tuesday at walmart. I know it's normal for them to be "depressed" for a few days, but it's been like 5 days and all he does is either sit at the bottom of the tank, or floating at the top. he doesn't do anything but that. he hardly swims either. well here's a picture, i'm thinking that might be velvet on his fins, but all the pictures of velvet i see online aren't very clear so i'm not sure. here's the picture:

OK, so that picture's not very big, hm...i'll put a bigger one on here in a minute.

What size tank is he in?

His fins look pretty opened up to be suffering from velvet.
Hold a flashlight over him and see if it looks like he's been spray painted w/gold paint. You will know right away if it's velvet.

He could still be settling into his new home. Does it have current? Any tankmates?

when i got angelo he was a pale green and didnt eat for five days... now he is a blue color and eats like a pig :p

right now he's just in a 1 gallon. i saw him and didn't really have enough money to buy anything bigger that day but he was so pretty i had to bring him home. but he's alone in the tank, except a plant, here's a bigger picture of the one above(sorry it's sooo big, but it helps to see what i'm talking about), and another one of what he's been doing lately. just sitting there....

not sure if it's just his coloring here on the base of his fins.

i dont think its velvet..it looks like your betta just needs time to settle in..i usually let them alone for a hour to 4 days (i feed them still) depending on the fish

That's how my fish's fins looked when I found out he had velvet but its really hard to tell. It could just be that he needs to settle in or he could have it. But it seems like he does open up his fins and usually with velvet their fins clamp up. You'll want to look at him with the lights off and a flashlight and see if you see any gold dusting or anything else for that matter.

Ihave several fish that have that gold coloring on their fins and bodies, it's not velvet. Velvet... is differant looking.

Cute fish. ^^

Looking at the last picture, i'd have to say he has parasites possibly.
Do the ends of his fins look rather frazzled and frayed a tad bit?

When they hold their fins stiff like that, it could be that.
Do you see any white stuff on him? Like little teeny miniature dots?

I just looked, but i didn't notice any white dots. but, he seems to have developed clear looking dots on his fins, like they are being ate through or something. could that be what ur talking about? If it is, what would u suggest is the best medication for him. right now all i'm doing is putting the aquarium salt in his water. any other good suggestions?

well, i just got home from work a few minutes ago and i noticed this on top of his water. I'm not sure if it's a bubble nest, because it has REALLY small bubbles, but i can't figure out what else it would be. So, what do u think? maybe he's feeling better?

Yep, that's a bubblenest. I think he probably just needed to settle in; sick fish don't make bubblenests.

He's beautiful, by the way. What's his name?

Well, i'm not sure, i'm one of those people who have a HORRIBLE time at coming up with names. LOL, i could alway name him Pinky, like from Pinky and the Brain...my grandma used to love that show. lol.

Hehehe... Pinky is a cute name. :) You could call him Thursday, since you got him then. A few years ago my family had a goldfish called Wednesday, but that was after the girl in the Addams Family. :alien:

LOL, that's cute. I like picking out names from mine and my friends and familys favorite cartoons, shows and bands. I'm close to naming my red male, and red female Raggedy Ann and Andy, because they were my favorite characters when i was younger.
