I've moved my lone male betta from a 6g to a 10g tank. I've made sure it's quite heavily planted compared to the previous tank and it has sand instead of gravel. Apart from some slight flaring at reflection it has settled in well. Because 10g is quite a lot for a single betta i want to add some more fish. I've done some reading around and the general consensus seems to be that corys are the best option. Would pygmy corys be too small? Pandas seem to be a good option but i'm going back to university at the end of the summer and a 10g is as big as i'm going to be able to have, and i hear pandas can get slightly on the large side and i won't be able to upgrade until i graduate at least. Any advice?

pygmy or julii (leopard) corys would be small enough, I would stick to 4 of either for that size tank.

I have pygmy corys with one of my bettas and they are not too small. You could get five or six easily in a ten gallon, if they are the only tank mates. Otos are another option; they look similar to pygmy corys and they will eat algae, but like to be in small groups and like a mature tank.

Almost any peaceful fish works fine with a nice B splendens. At present I have my 4 year old in an endler tank along with a few bristle nose plecs that I want to breed when they mature.
