I am a semi-newbie (kept tanks as a kid), decided to start again. I have a female platy that looks very plump and I think I see the litte dark spot (I forget what its called) that may indicate pregnancy. I have a net breeder but I don't want to put her in it too early and force her to be in a constrained environment for too long. Any advice on the time of putting her in the breeder. Also, should I just take my chances and not bother with the breeder? Thanks. :)

My platy has just had some fry. However it seems there is only one left and i havent yet seen it today so its most likley been ate.

It seems when my female is pregnant she seems to hang around the surface much more then usual.

Hope all goes well for you :)

hi,
welcome to tff,
i let mine have fry in the main tank as the net just made mine abort,
get the net ready in the main tank and get some live floating plants, the fry like to hide in this then you can cup them in to the breeder net, good luck with it all Donna :good: .

I just had a guppy have fry and i didnt even know she was pregnant therfore i didnt have anything set up then i came home one night found some and she was still having some and so i took a net and got them into the net breeder and kept them in there so what i would do to be on the safe side since you dont no all the signs for when she will give birth leave her in the tank and every time she has some look at how she acted that way you have an idea on what she will act like then put her in the breeding net.

Hope this helps
