Update for you.

The dwarf cichlid dies 2 days later :/ and I lost 2 more Cardinal Tetra

But the others seem to be doing a lot better. The bellies are getting fatter and they are a lot more active.

The tails on the Cardinals are slowly coming back but very slowly, I'm wondering if the stress of everything has brought on a case of finrot which is why the Cardinals tails disappeared in the first place, but they went suddenly, not gradually

I have some fin rot treatment so will start it soon.

One question I have though is that I have just added a piece of wood to my tank today and I am expecting to have some tannins released and am using the carbon to help filter out the tannins, but I need to remove the carbon to start the finrot treatment.

Am i safe to allow tannins in the tank? but wont water changes to remove tannins be removing meds at the same time?

Shall I just let my water go yellow whilst treating and only water change when the treatment is complete?

Thank you for the update.

Sorry for your losses.
:rip:

Did you boil the wood before adding it to the tank?
You can soak the wood for a few weeks before adding it to the tank.

If you want to add the finrot medication I would advise removing the wood.
Or just keep preforming water changes then add the correct amount of medication back to water removed.
If you add the black carbon it will just remove the medication from the tank.
Keep a close eye on the PH reading.

Do the fins have a white, pink, red, brown edging?
Do the fins look like there falling apart?
Do the fins have any holes?
Any split in the fins with a white fluffy edging?
Do the fins look like they have excess mucas, or slime on the fins?
Do the fins show any signs of red streaking?

The tails look normal on the cardinals, just that some are missing, no white edges, fluff or any such like, if I didn't know better I'd say someone trimmed them with a pair of scissors.......

2 of the tails on my harlequins look slightly ragged around the edge, all other fins look perfectly healthy on all fish.

Ok.
I think I would treat for finrot. Myxazin by waterlife a good medication for finrot.

Good Luck.

Will do, I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel though, future looks a lot more healthy now :)

That's good to hear.

:good:
