I have a 65 gallon tank and driftwood in my living room waiting to be set up and there is a possibility that furniture polish may have gotten on the wood and/or tank. I was irate about it because I know the danger of it for the fish and explained that to the person who was cleaning, and was wondering what my next step would be.

There's no way I can take the tank back or anything and I spent and hour on the floor looking through wood and spent nearly 60 dollars on them.

What I was thinking was using the 1:19 part bleach/water on the tank but what about the wood? I'm afraid the wood may have absorbed the cleaner but I'm also afraid that if I bleach it, it may absorb the bleach as well. What about boiling with salt or something?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tiger Lotus :)

could bleach it then take the wood to a jet wash (where you'd clean your car) and give it a good old blast to make sure it's cleaned out.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Did you actually spray the wood? If not then any amount will be tiny. So long as you do regular water changes there is almost no risk of a concnetration leaching out that will cause problems for the inhabitants.

If you did this, the chemicals used to clean cars come through the same pipe lol so dont!

Thanks everyone for the replies. The wood wasnt directly sprayed, a rag was sprayed and some I guess got on the wood. I was worried I would have to throw everything out because of the spray. I hope everything goes well, and I'll be sure to boil.

Thanks again,
