Possible Bacteria Bloom....

I think im having a possible bacteria bloom

I did a water change yesterday and the water is still cloudy - looks as if Ive dropped a few drops of milk in it

Is this bad??

If it is a bacteria bloom - why would I be getting it now? Ive not made any changes to filter, and not done anything silly like wash filter media under tap etc

Help!

And I also had a death earlier this evening, my home reared mickey mouse platy

Am getting worried - this is a mature tank

Im going to do a water change every other day to see if this rectifies the situation - unless anyone else has any suggestions

Has someone else been feeding your fish for you Tory? I have only seen that kind of thing when I let a neighbor feed my fish while I was gone. When I got home, the tank was cloudy and I could smell it when I opened the front door to my home.

No OldMan47, ive not been putting anymore food in than normal, and there is no smell - as I say, I did a large water change yesterday to try and sort the problem out, but its still no different

Have you tested your water? Has your filter been accidentally switched off (power cut?) or maybe not working as well? Maybe some of your filter bacteria has died off causing the bacterial bloom?

Sorry, not really sure what to suggest hun. Hope your fish are ok

Not yet silverrabbit, am going to go to the lfs as soon as I can, had plug pulled out the other day by my daft bloke, but it was only for seconds, and im sure it was there before then. I might check the filter too and see if there is anything in there that shouldnt be

The other fish seem fine..fingers crossed x

i sometimes get one when i do a weekly 30% water change in my big tank but that only last's for a couple of hours have you put anything at all in the tank in the last 12 hours or more at all tory

No dude - other than my syphon and food - did the water change yesterday...no saturday (didnt see the time), it was cloudy before and still is

hmm odd it might be just your water is hard or they might of done the dosing this weekend (overtime lol) ive noticed our water has silly amounts of chlorine in it it smells and tastes horrid
But water is normally stable that way i used to live this side of the humber barton/barrow/goxill/s#37###horpe lol and the water war always good so i don't know lol
Im no use a all really am i lol

I might just do a few water changes and see how it goes

Not the only one thats having probs, my brother has just got into fish keeping and ke's got his first few fish home after testing his water and the necxt day they all had white spot and now one has disapeared

Hope this run of bad luck clears up, dont want to loose anymore fish - lost 2 in the last week now. Deffinately going to get a water test and plenty of water changes

Cant wait to get my new tank furnished and set up

LOL! Tell me about it!! Im sat here looking at it sat there and im itching to get it done!! I nearly set it up today but im waiting for the plants to arrive sometime during the week - probably best waiting for them cos it will mess up the sand if I do it last!

Ive also seen an amazing piece of bogwood in the lfs on friday, its 25 quid and is about 15 inches tall and looks like a tree trunk with branches coming off it - would make a cracking centre piece!! Bet someone will have snapped it up before I go in next lol!! I had to force myself NOT to buy it on friday, or the pictus catfish..or the yo yo loaches... or the rams... or the discus (LOL!) its the first time ive gone in and not actually bought somethin!

Bet I make it look S*** now after you saying you wanna see it!

Ive found a place near me (distinctive pets mansfield) they have wood about 2ft by 10" for redptiles (apparently its the same wood) for 30 quid proper tree trunk lol and they have the trunk the same width but 4ft and with the root bits that span about 3ft for 40quid im thinking about a few for my big tank lol but how cheap is that
It looks water weathered cmd coloured like bogwood too

i put deposits on all sorts lol, yeah they are mad lol very cheeky we are getting more this week from burton upon trent (well they are from wolverhampton but we are meeting ther thesd are rescued too
Have you joined i am doing a fishy section too
It still needs alot of work though lol
