So, recently i added two more Pink Jewels to my tank, all were fine except one, who always hid in the corner. I expected he was just adjusting to his surroundings until today I noticed his eye was swollen and his color was faded. Must've had it at the store, because my water is near godliness in cleaniless. So, after much research, I am going to go get some Melafix today, and I'm doing a 70% water change. Other than that, not much I can do. Any tips or advice? Will Melafix affect my plants, shrimp, tetras, loaches, or filter bacteria badly? Advertisement says it doesn't, but I'd like some advice.

...................Anybody? I need help... :/

Well, I'm going to PetSmart now, I'm getting both Melafix and Primafix just to be safe all infection is gone. Reviews I've read were all good, save for the occasional outlier. Will these medicinces be completely safe for my stock?

I just read somewhere that melafix/primafix is not safe for gouramis.....is this true? How will I treat my tetras????Help!!!

Just read something again, it says Bettafix and Primafix is safe for Gouramis, but will it be okay for everything else in my tank? Please reply quickly, I need helllp

If only one eye is swollen, does that not suggest an injury, treated by isolating the fish in a QT and dosing the tank water with epsom salts?

By swollen I mean its legit pop-eye, not like the fish equivilant of a black eye

I have no QT. Plus, I need to make sure all the bad bacteria is out, if its caused by bacteria. It might by hormonal, or something else, but better safe than sorry. I'm going to get Bettafix so my gouramis are safe, but i really really need to know if Bettafix and Pimafix are shrimp, plant, and gourami safe.

Please, can anybody answer and help me :/ ? The google results are too skewed :S

Well, since no one have me answers i went to my LFS...they gave me Mardel Maracyn and a small heater for my tiny QT tank...much more than I originally was hoping to spend. Anyway, I found another tetra, another one of the new ones, with Pop-Eye. So they're both in their. Sometime this week im going to get Ammo Lock and Aquarium Salt for the QT. How much should I change the water? Every day? And how to I ensure no bacteria is in my show tank? I already did a 70% water change

Can't help much, but what you've done so far seems right. If it's a bacterial infection, the meds you've got should hopefully help.
Other reason could be if something is poisoning the water. If ammonia/nitrite are 0, then check if you have added something that might have contaminated the tank. Also you can try Epsom salts(Magnesium Sulfate) 1tbsp per 5 gallon

I take pride in my tank, it has perfect stats and I always clean it. I think the fish got it before I put them in my tank. Can't use salt in my show tank, i have plants and loaches.

Epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate, not salt really. It is in no way harmful to plants at all and is actually used as additional fertilizer. I don't think it is harmful to scaleless fish either, on the contrary, it is used with scaleless fish because they don't torelate normal salt but I would wait for someone else to confirm as I never had loaches.
Generally, meds could be a lot more harmfull to scaleless fish than any type of salt

Ok, I'll look into that, thanks :good: How often should i be changing the QT's water? Everyday?

Edit: Can epsom salt be used with shrimp?

I put salt in my shrimp salad and have had no problems

Only joking

To be honest, I don't know whether it contains anything harmful for shrimp, but I don't think so.

Well, if you are treating with Maracyn, then it depends on the instructions for this I guess. If not, then every day

it says to treat on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th day, but its a tiny tank and im worried that the ammonia will build up quickly

Since it is a new setup, then the ammonia and nitrites will certainly kreep up. And unfortunately I don't know how this could be adapted to treatment with maracyn.

Certainly, there is someone else around that can give an imput.

I don't want to steer you in a different direction, but if you would like to take the risky route of not treating with maracyn, and decide to try the epsom salt route instead, then dose the tank at 1tbsp per 5g, then do daily water changes and make sure you add the epsom salt to the added water at the same dosage.
