Poorly Black Moor

Should I mix some salt in as well, or would that stress him too much?

I would just half dose the salt to the tank. Best to add it gradually. Rather than one big dose.

Do you know an lfs that does fish scrapes. So they can take a skin scrape and look under the microscope.

No, no-where here dos that. Vets are uselss as well - they'll charge a lot and the results will take days, possibly weeks. I asked them about it when I was having columnaris problems.

For now the m green med should cover a few parasites and fungal problems.
That's all I can point it too. Never seen anything like this before.

Post in tropical discussion to see if any members have had the same problem.

Without past experience it abit of a guessing game at the moment. I don't like guessing.

Can you isolate the fish and use the whitespot med. So you are not treating the whole tank.

Don't use table salt for the baths - only aquarium salt.

Just another thought - do you have a magnifying glass at all, to look at the threads closer and see if they are anchor worms. I know you said before that you didn't see the fork or curl but maybe a really closer look might give a clue.

Or wrap the fish in a clean cloth soaked in tank water. Ask someone to gently hold the fish down for you.
Than nip the strands with tweezers to see if they move.
You will get a better look removing the fish from the tank.

He's in a bath with the white spot treatmeant and a little aquarium salt. I can't see the threads at all when he is out of the water but I can try to hunt for some. The only tank I can isolate him in is a 14 litre tank - I don't think that'll do him any good! He's in a bucket for baths at the moment but only in there for 15-20 mins max.

He seems to be breathing quite heavily now. I've isolated him in a very small hospital tank because I'm worried the other fish will pick on him. He'll get daily water changes.

I'm so worried about him.

Hi - how is he today? Any worse?

As we don't seem to be able to pinpoint exactly what this problem is, could you perhaps bag him up (use tank water in a clean plastic bag and fill with some air from an air pump tube (if you have a pump for airstones?). Take him to your LFS and let them see these strange white strands and hopefully they will know what it is.

My lfs are rubbish, they know sweet FA about fish because they're not trained properly and not really fish people. I used to work there so I know everyone and what the training is like :X

Overnight it seems to have converted to something fungal. Looks like his slime coat is shedding and he's got tufts on his fins. I've done a 90% water change and put him in with some anti-fungal and a low dose of aquarium salt. Got an air-pump going as well.

He's not looking good, tbh. Very still, not eating.

Bless Him.

Soak his food in garlic juice. He going to need all his strength to pull throw this.
Once a fungal infections gets hold a fish it's not looking good.

He isn't eating =(

He's getting pellets soaked in garlic and garlic infused brineshrimp but not eating anything.
