I have posted this in betta forum aswell, but wanted to get help asap.. so...

today im going to have to borrow money to buy alternative food, something to cover the mirror in my tank and dependent on your advice, some medicine for my betta.

He moved tanks two days ago because he was stressing out and chasing the gourami. he is now in a 5g on his own.

26 degrees, 0 am, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, pH7.8 (cant get that down as tap is 8!)

I only have tropical fish flakes, so what else should I get today?

He hasnt eaten much, if anything for three days now.

Could it just be stress?

I need to cover the mirrored back in the tank as hes flaring at himself a lot now...

His fins look fine... he occasionally sorta gasps at the bottom.

Is he ill or stressed or both?

and what do i do to fix it?

If he gaspig there something wrong.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects.
Any excess mucas on the gills or body.
Do the gills look pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.
Does the betta look bloated.
Did you match ph and temp when you moved him to the tank of his own.

no discolouration, no bloating, no pale gills or mucus, no signs of flicking or rubbing... unless sitting still by a plant counts?

pH and temp were identical between the two tanks.

The fact that he's in a tank with a mirrored panel might actually be enough to cause the gasping. Stress can cause gasping on its own - and he's one highly stressed fish. To him, every time he goes near that side of the tank, there's a rival looking back at him - threatening his territory. He challenges the rival, the rival immediately responds. Think about it - his greatest enemy knows exactly what he's going to do next - and copies. Would that stress us all out?

Get the mirror covered - as in seriously opaque and leave him for a day or so to calm down.

ok linz! I will get that sorted asap.

someone suggested trying to make a something or other moss wall.

A moss wall is mainly for aesthetic purposes, but some floating plants might be a good idea, if you don't have any :good:

My fella and I went to the pet shop to by some backing to cover the mirror...

we left with a new five gallon tank along with filter, some bloodworm and some aquarium salt.

All bought by partner!! :) bless.

Sooo bazil has moved home again!!
To a new tank but with the old water and filter.

He ate some blood worm and he is swimming around!!!

so things are looking up!

I got the salt incase someone gets ill... but i am not sure how or when to use it.

I put the new filter into bazils old tank, so now I need to go read up on fishless cycling to get that tank prepped.

I don't know if I should keep it as an emergency tank or for breeding or for more fish... but yeh, thats a while of yet.

Bless him.
Good luck.

Bazil is much happier.

but i found my icklest, fav guppie upside down in the bottom of the other tank with a chunk of tail missing :(

Sadly once there upside down they tend not to make it.
Any aggressive fish in the tank.
