Went to a different lfs today, they had a great variety of fish, lots of more unusual ones.
However, the bettas (about 15 of them) were all in these tiny drip-fed tubs, certainly no bigger than 4" x 4". Every one i looked at was just looking through the sides, saying please take me! :-( :-(

I wanted to take at least one of them, but being a responsible fish owner decided i'd come on here and get some advice on keeping them first.

Anyway, poor little things :-(

Tiny drip fed tubs? I think that sounds like a betta wall... and actually is a good thing. Certainly better than unfiltered un heated cups.

really? i know bettas can fight, but surely even a foot square tank would be better than that! at least they could swim a tiny bit! :/

Oh no don't get me wrong... ideally they'd all be in at least 2gal tanks that were planted... but space is limiting. And as the time they spend in the shop is short term I'd rather see them in a heated filtered container where they aren't bullied by any other fish than in say... cups. Which is how they are in ALOT of places.
