pool filter sand in my tank
depends on what goes into it... to be honest i would reccomend this stuff - http/www.argos.co....3EPLAY+SAND.htm
It's really up to yourlikes and your fishes on what sand to use. Pool filter sand is a little coarser than play sand. I have playsand in 8 tanks and it works wonderfully!

I don't like any of the cheapo sands. Check out this article for sand in the aquarium:
Sand as a Substrate in the Aquarium
I don't stir up the sand. I bought some maylaisian trumpet snails and they do the job for me. And I know some will say that playsand is no good for plants, but I find that they grow better in sand compared to gravel, but I do use root tabs to fertilize. It's really up to yourlikes and your fishes on what sand to use. Do you have to stir it regulary to keep it from going anaerobic ? Do you grow plants in it at all ?
Nice article. If you have just one or two tanks, I guess the estees sand is the way to go, but I have 10+ tanks. I think I will stick with the play sand. It has worked great for me so far.
I did my 150 with the Estes sand and it made such a difference that I changed all my tanks to it. I have done it for all my tanks including my reef, almost all my clients' tanks, the display tanks at the shop I was running, and many customers' tanks. No complaints from anyone ever. I do not think it is too expensive. It runs about the same cost as gravel and makes enough of a difference to not cheap out on it.
