Pluming Question ?

I have a canister filter as a chemical filter I have a berlin x2 skimmer that's a few years old. how do I rig theses 2 together? The water comes in the bottom of the skimmer then there are 2 out spouts on the thing. so does one out spout go to the filter but where does the other go. I'm feeling like I'm in other my head. There is so much more stuff and so many tubes. fresh water is so much easier. Do I even have to run the 2 together could they filter separately.

could some one make sense of all this for me. I know how it is all suppose to work but I'm not sure how to put it all together.

Any chance of pictures of the skimmer in question? Most skimmers can run solo, and a lot can be rigged to filters also
