Ok so heres the thing, the bro in law who we're renting the house from starting in sept has agreed to let me get the tank in and start setting it up at the weekend. Gonna get it up and running and luckily they're avid fishkeepers too! :hyper: amazingly they know about the cycling thing, so when i can't get around to do it myself they said they'd be happy to do a bit in my stead :hyper:

Back to the plecs...i've been hunting around a bit and found a 'Flash Pleco'
Anyone have any tips or advice for plecs? I don'tknow much about them, only the little bits here and there. So any more information from ppl who have first hand exprience with them would be brill :)

Go to the catfish-pleco part of the forum. You will get more and better replies there. :nod:

plecs prefer well established tanks so you'd be better to wait a while before introducing one, which should give you plenty of time to research them.

Planetcatfish.com if your friend when it comes to pleco's, its got a huge index of catfishes like plecos, here's an article on flash plecos;

:thumbs: .

When it comes to wood eating plecos like flash plecos, its best to go for a variety of wood in the tank like driftwood/bodwood/mopani wood etc. Wood from fish stores is fine to use, although i'd be wary about getting wood from gardens and woodlands and the such like etc. The wood will stain the tank water a sort of tea colour for a while, this staining is caused by the wood leaking out tannins into the water, however it is absolutely harmless to the fish and even beneficial for the health of many fish like certain types of catfish as tannins have antibacterial qualities etc :thumbs: .

thanks for that!

I didn't realize they prefered a more mature tank. So that bit of info is greatly appreciated :)

Will give the sites a good look. Comes in handy about adding wood, water around here is hard, so hopefully adding drift/bogwood would lower the ph :)
