Can anyone tell me what this is?

Plec has developed a spot on their left fin, it has now turned Red. Looks irritating for my pleco. It's a Gold Spotted pleco. My pride and joy.

Im new to fishkeeping, I've had various issues, my tank is overstocked and I had high ammonia and also treating for whitespot. Though my pleco is still active and feeding. Cud it be whitespot tho its turned Red? Another parasite? Or maybe an injury?

Most ideas on this seem to be a possible fungus? Not sure. Shud i try aquarium salt, though I know plecos are sensitive to a lot of treatments.

It sounds like your tank isn't cycled, being the reason for the ammonia levels. A cycled tank should not have any detectable ammonia. I don't know if this is what is causing your issues with your pleco or not. You are now in a fish-in cycle, and with the tank being cycled we usually recommend that you return the fish to your LFS/find another home for them and take the time to do a proper cycle. We have some great resources about cycling your tank in the cycling section of this website; please read them as soon as possible.  http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/291-cycle-your-tank/
What fish do you have in your tank? How big is it? How new is it? Is it filtered and heated?
Good luck!
