i ve hand my tank setup and cycled just over a month now and i have plants in and sand also a bit off bogwood my sailfin pleco is keep going behind my bogwood and digging a hole which is hitting the bottom on the tank it looks a mess he lies there all day under it how can i stop this

mine likes to have a little dished out section in the sand...so I let him have a corner for it lol...put my driftwood at an angle to hide the hole and we are both happy. Then again, my plec is a loon so...

you need more than a bit of bog wood ?

i would , if it was *mine* make some sort of cave, or at least a good hiding place, yanno ?

whats the 1st thing a plec does when you add it to the tank ? ........

the first thing? find the ONE place you won't ever be able to see him, and stay there for EVER. lol

You know the sailfin is too big a fish for your tank anyway, so you really do need to rehome him to a good home with a big tank.

All plecs will dig holes it is part of what they do, more so if they do not have enough hiding places. I had one that woud wriggle backwards under his favourite piece of wood then thrash his tail until the sand was 'just right' for him. Very messy and fun to watch.

My 15" Common has excavated himself a large hole in the gravel under the internal filter housing. He lies there, usually upside down. I can see his eyes looking out! He is completely barmy. :)
