Hi There,

firstly to explain.
some of you may have noticed that i have 4 amazon swords in my rekord 60. see pic below.

60up1.jpg

these plants are usually pretty tall, around the 1 foot mark minimum. over a year with carefull pruning i have managed to bonsai them. basically the plant thinks it's fully grown. new leaves only grow to the surface and are much narrower than the original plant should be. they give the impression the tank is much bigger than it actually is.

here is the same plant in my 40G see the difference (centre rear)

tetrashoal2.jpg

they will only grow this well (without browning leaves etc..) with added laterite / eco complete etc.. and co2 fertalisation.

now getting to the point

i have a few amazon sword plantlets spare probably 3 or 4 growing in my cube tank on a flower stalk. these are perfect to plant in a shallow planted tank right now. they are only about 6 inches tall and will mature to the tank size if pruned correctly.

if there is anyone with a simillar tank to mine (must have suitable substrate) who would like to grow these plants please reply here and i'll pass them on. i cant use them and they are destined for the dustbin.

please no time wasters. i really want to give them to some one with a suitable tank. they are too small to go in a 40G etc and will probably die before they get going as the light will be too far away.

First come first served. if i get a few suitable tank owners i may send one each. dont PM me about this yet, we dont want any que jumping!!!
so ladies and gentlemen, let the squabble commence.

I'll take one for my 10 gallon nano....

... just joking ;)

I'd have loved some for my 19 Gallon, but it would be a complete and utter nightmare to remove once established :/ and I'm not sure I want them in my final layout for the tank.

Do we have to pay for shipping and do you ship to the US?

what do you think??

He giving the plants away - do you think the guy will want to pay the $20 to get them to you and go through the fuss of US customs importing live palnts...

I think not :S

sorry - my bad?

ahh sorry i should have said UK only. my appologies.

good point bloozoo. once established the roots literally fill the entire tank.

if i pull mine out i'll pull all the other plants with it.

anyone else interested?

I have just removed 1 and thinned down another sword with leaves up to 50cm long. What pruning do you recommend to keep them down to a more manageable size?

it's hard if your starting with a big plant but basically remove all the leaves that too tall. only leave in place leaves that are 2/3 up the tank ie 1/3 short of the top. if all the leaves are too tall you may kill the plant (hence why these plantlets are ideal)

the leaves grow from a crown, normally you'd remove the outer leaves first and work in as the new leaves sprout from the centre. if you keep on top of it always pulling off a leaf as soon as it hits the surface the plant will eventually work out that if it grows too tall it'll get the chop. after a year or so the leaves will naturally grow much narrower and shorter than originally.

*BUMP*

ok i seem to be having trouble giving away freebies.

any one with a Juwel Rekord 60, 70 rio 125 or simmilar tank feel free to reply.

i guess up to a 20G is the kind of size i am talking about. if you have that size tank with plant substrate and co2 just ask and you shall recieve!!

no cost at all i'll even pinch the stamp from work so you dont have to pay postage. (UK only though for obvious reasons)

these plants will be in the bin by the weekend. wasting quality plants is not my favourite passtime

Edit: come on people i can see your all reading it!! i dont bite, honest..

I have some space in my 20gallon tank now that I have moved some bigger amazon swords and vallis into my 80g. I would be happy to give them a good home to save rthem from the bin :) .
