Hi All,

I have taken 8 baby platies from a guy who was going to ((in a polite way get rid). So ive got them in my tank.

Please see pic. What age would you suggest these are?? he said anything up to 1 month old?????

Also what can i feed them??

I started with first bites powdered flakes, but ive got fat fingers and worried about putting too much in. so the guy at my LFS said try tetra wafer mix. They are less messy i feel but the wafer is nearly complete after being in the tank for 12 hours. I then take it out and put a fresh one in next day.

Ive seen them put there mouths on it but nothign seems to break off ( like if i took a bite from a biscuit).

So is there something else I could try which is not messy and no worries about putting too much??

Thanks,

Dave

just some extra info. they are about 2cm from mouth to end of tail

Flake and small pellets and net it out when they stop feeding i think there about 8 weeks old

please could you suggest what sort of pellet. ( brand name).

Could you also advise what size should i be aiming for?? ive heard they do mini pellets??

when you say net the pellets out when they stop feeding, is that say 30 minutes after i put it in as they dont all come at once.... some may be somewhere within my plants and dont come over straight away.

Sorry for all th questions,

Thanks,

Dave

To be honest, you could go with reg. flakes with platies that size. Just make sure you crunch up the flakes really well for them, and make sure they get a good amount, and when they stop eating them, scoop out the leftovers.  Platies are pretty resilient, and as long as there is nothing in your tank to eat them and they get food to eat, they're going to grow and get bigger, especially when you've gotten them at that size. GL!

i have a phobia of flakes as when i was young under 10, my parents bought me a goldfish and bowl.................... i wont bore you with the story but i definitely don't want to feed flakes.
