Hmm, the sec picture looks like a Rock Kribensis. But other than that, I cant tell you what they are.

I'll laugh if i'm wrong and you have to move it back :p lol

No... I think you're right.... They were sold to me simply as assorted Malawi Cichlids..... and if Malawis are considered old world.... then you are right.... This is so confusing, cause when I started out with fish (in the 70's) Malawis were'nt on the map yet and that's why I classify them as new??

second one looks like Astatotilapia latifasciata to me. the others do look like venestus or possibly one of the other nimbo speices.

Ouch!..... I personally hope you're wrong with the 2nd one cause I'll never be able to pronounce that if anyone has to ask..... They do however, (if I have to judge).... look like mouthbreeders..... are these you're talking about mouthbreeders..... (I could be wrong)

Now again,... I hope you are correct with the 2nd one, cause being "critically endangered" it seems like a "nice to have"..... The first one also seems to be correct (on your "diagnosis"), in which case, I have very long to wait before breeding them..... 10.5", & mine are only about 1".....

ive read the same thing about them being endangered in the wild, but they seem to be pretty common among lake victorians. the lfs near me has 2 tanks full going for $9 each, i bought 4 in hopes of getting a nice male.

Yes.... I have now confirmed (without doubt) that I have Astatotilapia and nimbo (something)... and I'm looking forward to breeding the former, as they are reported to be less aggressive. Personally, I'm not very pro Malawis, but, I'll give this one a go.

yep agreed the fish are livingstonii not venustus

And as I said..... Livingstonii... grows to about 10"...... mine are only about 1"..... so, a long time before I can consider breeding those, but at least, my Astatotilapias are about 4", & they grow to about 5".... so better prospects there....
