Hay People,

I have a 17 Gal tropical corner tank which i have planted some real nice plant in, but they keep dying and uprooting, i went to the lfs and they said my sand was not deep enough, so i have grad added more sand to the tank and went and spent £50 on some new plants and plant fertaliser...what can i do to make sure they dont uproot or die anymore as want it to be a nice alive tank!!!

The light bulbs are "Apparenlty" ok for the tank and enought watts - 2 x 11 Wat so works out 1 and abit watt per Gal which iv been told is ok!!!

Any tips or Info please!!!???

Cheers HNL_FISH :fun: :fun: :fun:

May I see a picture of the tank, please...

Thank you

Well fish shops sell you any old plants, most even selling none aquatic plants telling yuo they are aquatic. Rather annoying when i can confidently point out and distinguish none aquatics from aquatics and they seem none the wiser. Guarenteed to be a case of the shop telling you they are fine when most plants, except the true easy basic plants, won't survive in <1WPG.

Sounds like you've been duped pal.

most plants can survive <1wpg. They will just grow a bit slower.

Hi guys, tried to upload a picture but keeps saying to big to upload any advice?

upload via imageshack or photobucket. Use the img codes and follow the intructions.

Please find attached the pic of my tank!!!

they look aquatic to me. theres some egeria (easy plant), cryptocoryne wendtii (easy, once established, it may melt but stay with it!), Aponogeton (easy plant), Java fern (easy plant, the rhizome needs to be above the substrate), twisted vallis (easy plant). You shouldn't really struggle with these, what ferts are you using?

ps how did you spend £50 on these plants?

It was bout £50 for the plants and the fertaliser - which is: ProFito !!!???!!!???!!!??? Any good?
U got any tips for me with the plants it says to add 10ml once a week!!!

P.s - do u like my tank? lol

sounds an expensive day out!

Profito is a good fert (i use it). I would look at dosing 2-3 times a week. 5 mls twice a week or 3.3mls three times a week. Keep an eye on the plants, although they are easy plants, however they may need an extra c02 injection via some liquid c02.

The tank looks good, nice bit of wood :good:

Cheers i really like the wood also...how much does the C02 liquid cost?

A 250ml bottle costs about £7.99. I would get some professional advice before even considering using it though as I've been told it contains a certain chemical that isn't that kind to fish should the plants not readily utilise it.

I've been told it contains a certain chemical that isn't that kind to fish should the plants not readily utilise it.

Its called Gluteraldehyde. It is said to have a 'half life of 24 hours' which means in theory today's dose will be gone in 2 days in a plantless tank. And therefore after tomorrow's dose there will 1.5 x daily dose in the tank.

Therefore you will always have a 1.5 daily dose in the tank assuming the plants take it up.

Now we know that the plants do take it up and therefore to be a little erring on the cautious side lets say that in almost all cases there will be at any one time less than a 'daily dose' remaining in the tank.

Whilst stating the above to show it does not accumulate in the way that most other nutrients or additives do I do have to say there are some issues with this product.

However better for you to read than for me to write incorrectly. lol

One important thing to note is that the name 'polycycloglutaracetal' is said to be a name only used by one company that specialises in aquatic goods. From what I have read (and of course that being from the internet) it is unknown as an actual substance by anyone outside of this company and that the name is used to get around some restrictions.

I have to state for my own protection that the statement above is purely down to reading of many different sources and not something I can says is proven or factual:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutaraldehyde

Just my 2p is that anyting that ends with aldehyde is pretty dangerous stuff.
