Please Help!

Mark, is being a little over precautious 'again' IMO. Can i just ask what/which professional advice the OP would take?

If used with precaution and not overdosed, liquid carbon is fine. There are a lot of things we use in everyday life at work and at home that contain 'aldehyde's. The laminate floor you are walking on is bonded witht the stuff. The cigerette you smoke contains them, there are loads of things. As above, as long as we wash hands after use and don't OD, things will be fine.

In a 17g tank, though, OP could get away with some DIY CO2 injection, especially if the lighting was low enough. What is the lighting in this tank? What type? Liquid Carbon is kind of smelly, but that's just me, so I'll try for gas injection if it's feasible.

Tank looks rather nice. Egeria prefers cooler temperatures and you might want to separate the Egeria densa stems a bit to allow more light to reach the lower parts of the stems. If you've got java fern, which one of the plants kind of looks like it (towards the back), make sure it's not in the substrate but attached to wood. Rhizome needs to be clear of the substrate.

And being a nurse Ian uses 'aldehydes' in some form throughout his working day :)

I have formaldehyde in the cupboard under my tank (locked of course) and that is much more dangerous.
