I brought 2 Golden Ballon Rams a couple of weeks. They where both fine, now one of them is in trouble, he's lost his colours, going from a vibrant yellow/gold to a pale white/yellow in just 24 hours. He's sitting at the bottom of the tank and not moving very much, he looks like he's gasping for air. First thing I did was check the levels, ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0 and nitrate is in between 5 and 10. I'm thinking of doing a water change anyway, but anyone got any other ideas. He's a beautiful fish and I don't want to lose him.

Two changes to his normal routine, yesterday I feed my fish blood worm for the first time and 2nd two days ago I turned the filter down from the strongest setting to the middle one as the fish where having trouble with the current....

Please any help or advice would be great... thanks

Here's my little guy....

Ok... so what I have done so far is a 30-40% water changed, added some melafix, turned the filter back to its strongest settings and unplugged the C02 pump... any other suggestions?

couple of things it could be i guess, CO2 MAYBE to high gassing the fish, him/her been picked on by other fish? or maybe just lack of oxygen in the water.

Do any of these sound like a possibilty?

I'm not sure, i disconnected the co2, did a water change and increased the filter back to max.... now I look in the thank and can't see him anywhere :(

How many fish and which type.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.
What was the ph of the lfs to your tank.
Can he maintain balance.

Being pale, gaspings for breath and laying on substrate can be signs of bacterial infection, ph shock, bad water quality, parasites, toxins.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
