Please Help Set Up My Tank Properly!

the way I do it is to chuck the sponges (I have a juwel so there's a lot of them!) in the first bucket of tank water that's been syphoned out as that's the dirtiest. I give them a squeeze once the 2nd bucket is full and move them into that bucket (a little less dirty than the previous lol). Once they've had a brief rinse in there I put my filter back together whilst the 3rd bucket is filling. Quick and simple and I do this about once a month - no need for more in my case

Filter bacteria are a lot hardier than you might think :)

Clena, dechlorinated water is fine to use to clean media, as long as it is dechlorinated!

It is the chlorine in tap water that strangles the bacteria and kills them, which is why you shouldnt clean the sponges etc in CHLORINATED water, dechlorinated is fine :)
