Please Help Me Id My Fish

hi, can anyone plz help me try to id my fish, they're about 4-5",have blueish/yellowish eyes, one has yellow on it's fins, ill post pictures later, my camras battery is dead, if u can help sex them that would be nice thanks

I havent a clue it looks almost like the shape of a firemouth with the colours of a convict? I think it could be a low quality firemouth tbh, do you notice any red around the gills and under the belly?

I agree with Wills, it looks firemouth shape and convict colour I am wondering if its a hybrid. I am pretty sure cons and firemouths would cross breed.

Yep looks like a Firecon to me, they are pretty common....have a look at the hybrid section of MFK, and you'll see pics that look identical, and some that don't, but then hybrids don't always look the same.

Cool fish imo.

ok thanks. thats probably the reason i culdnt find it after researching for months. and wills, theres no red on their body at all the only color is the faint tint of blue thats sometimes under the ones that i think are females gills and the yellowish color thats sometimes on the fins as you could see in the last picture.

Looking at them again, after the third picture you posted I'm pretty sure they are Sajica x Firemouth, not convict.

The only way to really sex hybrids is by breeding tubes, and if they were opposite sex's, being central american hybrids...they would of bred by now.

Red Devil/Midas x Convict look very similar to Firecons also...just bigger and nastier

Okay! thank you Glenbo. i think your right, the only thing is that the one that had the blue under it's gills i've never noticed that and i've never seen it on the others. but thanks that helped A LOT! if u can help by telling me how big you think theylll get and if they'll display the Sajica or firemouth colors at all.

it will get around 7" max depending on alot of things, they could be short bodied because they are hybrids, so possibly less, i can see some Sajica looking colours and markings with the Firemouth looking face, as for colours in general, its a 'maybe' thing, all hybrids are very different.

You could have 100 fry and have 1 colourful one out of the whole batch, one of the main things people hate so much about man made hybrids such as blood parrots, king kong parrots, flowehorns and super red texas is the fact that only about 10% of the fry are ever any good, the rest get dumped into rivers etc.

Also it depends on which way round teh parents were....for example, the picture i posted was the offspring of a Male firemouth and a female convict, if its the other way round, they look different, also the picture i posted was of a good specimen, they are usually much duller.

It is not 100% that your fish has got firemouth in it either, but its most likley, it could be something else like a Red Devil/Midas, which has a similar sized snout. (the orange does not always carry through with the fry)
