can anyone identify these 2 fish please.not quite sure what they are.

thanks mamafish.the first pic is a vic of some sort i'm sure.maybe a sp44/zebra obliquidens.thanks for the info on the second pic.didnt have a clue on that one.the neolamps in with a eyebiter and 2 livingstoni so he'll be kept in check hopefully.once again thanks for your help.

The 1st one is almost certainly an Obliquidens. I have a Juvenile male at the moment and if he ends looking like yours i'll be very happy. :)

thanks ferris. i have 3 fish all bought at different times that all look similar, but not exactly the same.i'll try and get pics of all 3 later tonight and post them on here.you can have a look and see what you think.i think 1 sp44,1 zebra obliquidens and 1 ????? ps,the fish in the 1st pic is the worst of the 3.

As far as i know Rixy, Hap sp44 and Obliquidens are the same fish. Look forward to the pics.

i think there is some confusion over the sp44 and the zebra obliquidens ferris.some say they are the same fish and others disagree.my 3 are very similar, but, different if that makes sense.have you got any pics of your tank/fish???

There does seem to be some confusion about sp44/obliquidens but comparing pics etc, they do seem to be the same fish allowing for slight differences in individual examples.

I'm not sure pics would help with mine, he's only 1 inch at the moment. He's full of character though, not scared of the full grown Mbuna he's in with.

I reckon the top fish is an Astatotilapia Brownae. Some people call it Astatotilapia 'red tail'. Here is a pic of mine.

Chill,

Mark.

very similar.i wonder if mine is a hap sp44 crossed with a red tail????

heres a pic of one of my other similar to sp44 fish.sorry cant get all 3 together.they just wont stay still.what do you think ferris.

I think same species, that last pic i would guess is a female or a sub-dominant male as the colours are less striking.

interesting info mamafish68.i think it would be very imformative for anyone who keeps vics/malawis/haps etc.some malawis/haps/vics are so hard to give a positive id to.so many varieties to start with let alone when tom, dick and harry start crossbreeding them.

As for the second picture, Tretocephalus only has 4 bars on its body not 5 as the picture suggests.

Therefore the Lamprologine is sexfasciatus. A close relative that lives with tretocephalus.
