Just decided to clean my filter - a fluval FX5 my god what a disasterous event it turned out to be a night mare.

Right long and short of it - I cleaned it out and then I got the pipes crossed up the filter is now running on really really really low flow I dont know why and I cant get it to get going again.

I have had all the back off and cleaned the impeller and no joy. I got quite a lot of sand out but everything looked to be in okay condition.

It spits out fine for a few seconds then straight away its down to low flow and then decreases down from there.

PLEASE HELP!

If anyone in HULL has an external filter they can spare till I can at least buy a new one worst comes to worst I will be eternally greatful.

I don't know your filter but do you have any small switches on it? Can you take it apart, straighten tubing out then put it back together again?

hi, have you tried re priming it? i've had to do that with my Rena filstar xp2 a few times, and it's always fine afterwords. sorry, i don't have a spare filter.

hope you get it sorted out. :good:

right I think I have been a dimwit, I had pollishing pads in the top basket and that seemed to be a nono as it looks like thats what was clogging it up. Ive taken them out and set it up again and it seems to be okay, water is still very cloudy so I still have the water level dropped to create as much airation as possible Im trying to word this carefully so that I dont pre empt things going well so I dont tempt sod to lay down his laws on me......

Once the water has started to clear a fair bit I will do a water changes and get out as much crap as I can. My god I nearly gave up fish keeping because of this....
