Does it look like s strand of cotton.
Sounds like flexibactor columnaris.
In the uk myxazin by waterlife and pimafix.
Yes it can infect other fish.
Here a link to columnaris.

Columnaris is bacterial.

no,doesnt look like a strand of cotton,it looks like a white fluffy thing, with lots of realy fine bits coming off it!!

it looks like what a bit of food looks like if left in the tank for a while, but white!!

sould i seperate the fish,or treat the whole tank?

It sounds like a fungus. Not sure what meds are available in the UK, but here in the US, I would use "Jungle Fungus Clear". Just ask your LFS for something to treat a fungus.

And yes, it can spread to your entire tank. So, you'll probably need to treat the entire tank, unfortunately.

If you can post a pic, we can probably offer more help. But, from your description, I'm thinking fungus.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

is it possible to load a pic up.
Just want to make sure the white strands don't have Y shaped tails.
Any green in the fluffy patch.
I would add some pimafix for now.

i have took some piccys, but i cant get zoomed in close enough to the problem part, you can just see it on his side fin!!

i have added a dose of interpet no 8,was this a good move? i had to make a choice as he seemed to be getting worse :-(

doesnt look like that!!

its looks like a bit of fluffy cotton wool, with quite a few very fine strands coming from it!! no green in it

he hasnt moved all day,im a tad worried about him

Any improvemt since adding the med.
The interpet anti finrot and fungus med not very good.

Give it a few more days with the med and if no improvement get back to the board.

Asked colin t to take a look aswell.
It sounds like columnaris but the spike bits are throwing me.

nope the little guy is just lying there!! hidden away, all my little corys are always full of life, its weird to see 1 like this!!

great!! my lfs recommended it,and said it was realy good!! i had to go with what they said i had no clue :-(

Corys are very prone to bacterial infections.
Does the patch form a saddle shape.

Columnaris starts at the dorsal fin and then goes along the back of the fish, and then down the sides of a fish to form a saddle shape. Its called saddeback columnaris.

Wait for colin reply to see what he thinks. He usually replys.
