hi. I am new to Betta keeping and I want to learn as much as I can because he is so special ive really taken to him. when should I expect a bubble nest? when he makes one what happens to it? will the filter suck it up? will other fish eat it? should I add some floating plants? I only have one male what do other keepers do? as this being my fave fish its a shame u cant keep more then one. I guess the only option is another aquarium. thanks for reading x oh and my Betta has shorter fins then most ive seen on here I wonder if they will grow with time?

I've never had my betta make a bubble nest, so I'm not sure when to expect one. They do like to use floating plants, but the filter shouldn't suck it up unless it's too strong for the betta. As for the fins, you might have a plakat. Can you post a picture?

You can expect a bubble nest any time once he is settled in and he is at around 80F, 27C, with other needs being met like proper feeding.

Bettas can produce a bubble nest at any point in their life, under certain conditions (such as water quality, and water temp.) Usually, filters will not destroy the bubble nest your betta makes. And yes, bettas prefer floating plants such as almond leaves. Floating plants act as a "bed" for your bettas at night, and as a place to cultivate their bubble nest. Hope this helps!

When bettas build bubble nests, it's usually a sign they are happy and fairly healthy. Once your fish has settled in and adjusted to his new home, you might just get one. I do find that high surface aggitation destroys them unless there's a particularly 'quiet' spot though. I doubt the other fish will bother about it too much. I just have the one male with (a few surviving) shrimp and (a few surviving) snails (he's an agressive little thing, but seems to be happy enough with his bubble nest). I've had a mixture of both calm and agressive bettas in the past too - they're all different :)

My betta used to make his bubble nest after the day that I changed his water and fed him bloodworms and brine shrimp once a week :) I didnt have floating plants in mine but my betta did love the amazon swords in there where the leaves sat like an inch or two below the water line :good:
