I received a tank full of fish which included a total of 12 fish. I have 3 platys, one female 2 males in a 10 gallon, and recently they started fighting. The female was pregnant from before and recently had, and ate, her babies. Now, one of the males constantly follows her while the other stays near the surface in a corner. If he's not in the corner, he's well far away. they got along before and I never really saw them fight before . Plus they've been in the same tank before I got them, so I thoughtit was normal... I just want to make sure he will be fine or if I should do something.

For most live bearers the normal ratio is 2 females for every male, so unfortunately you have too many males and the most dominate one is doing what they do best harass the females and bully less dominate males.
What other fish did you receive in the tank and what size tank is it?

Male platies are mean, and the tank is pretty small for them so the female probably can't hide very easily! If you are able to rehome the males you might be better off, or at least make life easier on the female!

If fish are not moving and gasping at the surface, it can be a sign something is wrong.

What other fish do you have? In general I would say that 12 is a lot for a 10gallon, one of the reasons that the other male platy might not be moving could be that the wter is less than ideal due to overstocking.

Also, did you move over the same filter without cleaning it? If you do clean it it needs to be in dirty tank water only, not under the tap, or you will kill off your nice bacteria.

I have 3 corys, 6 tetras (?)(3 have red stripes 3 have have yellow fins with black tips) and the 3 platys. The person who had them before most likely overstocked it... They all are in a 10 gallon tank. The tank cycled fully about 2 Weeks ago and I haven't cleaned out my filter since I've had it. The platy usually just floats with his head up... Makes him look like he's dead... But he still is eating and will swim around sometimes.
