Tank size: 10 gallons
pH: 8.8
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 20ppm
tank temp: 78

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
He's been hiding under a rock for two days, I haven't seen him move but sometimes I look and he's under another rock so I know he can move. The one time I saw him swim he darted like crazy crashing about. I've examined him carefully and there's absolutely nothing abnormal about his appearance. He doesn't react like he normally does, swimming to the front of the tank when I look in.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:
25% water changes weekly, but I did a 50% water change because I was moving the tank downstairs, and then he started acting funny. He may have been acting funny before the move, but I was gone that whole day so I'm not sure.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Just dechlorinator, no carbon media or anything

Tank inhabitants: Just him (He was too aggressive so I had to remove him from the community tank and the other platies after he killed two of them. He's been happy living alone with a view of the neighboring tank for 6 months now.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None, recently moved the tank downstairs but everything is exactly the same. Did a 50% water change. Used the same procedure for another tank and they're all fine. I've thought very hard and I just can't think of any thing I messed up that would have put him at risk.

Exposure to chemicals: None that I know of. Thought about this a lot too.

I looked at all of the fish diseases and the only things I could come up with is an internal bacterial infection, old age (not sure how long platies live) or the stress from the move. The took about an hour and it's all the same filter media and decor/plants. I rinsed the rocks and plants in warm water to get some gunk off them but I didn't do anything with the filter media. That and the levels are still fine.

Thanks for any help!

I have had a very lathargic female platy for the last couple of days - certainly not heavily pregnant and no signs of any illness. But last night she was back to herself again. I have no idea what was the matter with her, but I was beginning to fear the worst. I'll be interested to see how things turn out for you and your platy.

Good luck

darting can mean the fish is dying, ph shock, parasites, toxins, stray voltage, over dose of meds.

it could be old age.
is he still eating.

Signs of a bacterial infection are
The fish will look pale or darker in colour.
Listless and lethagic.
Fish will find it hard to get of the bottom of the tank and sink back down.
Fish will rest on there sides.
Not eating.

Still no change
Took a good long look at him and he really looks completely normal. He's sitting on the bottom upright, his fins moving slowly and his gills moving normally. He's always had some strangeness with pooping, it's always been really light colored and seems like he has trouble getting it out. This has been going on since I got him, and he was in a community tank and none of the other fish ever developed problems. Could this be a symptom of an infection, even though he's had it for so long? I always thought it was some genetic problem.
He's not eating. I tried bringing a bloodworm down to his hide out with tweezers but he just got scared and darted farther under the rock.

I'm sure it's not ph shock or an overdose of meds, and probably not stray voltage, the others are possible.
Should I treat for anything or just let him be? My gut tells me he's just old and the tank move was too much stress for him.

I would try a bacterial med.
What do you feed the fish?

Still no change, although I did see him swim normally (rather than darting) from one rock to another.
I feed him Tetramin tropical flakes and bloodworms a couple times a week. I have broad spectrum antibiotics, should I try those?

Need to improve the fish diet with more frozen foods like daphnia and brime shrimp and veg.

I would only use antibiotics in isolation as they wipe the benefical bacteria out in the filter.

What the antibiotic name.
