One of my platties has been squared of for just under a week now. In the past 2 days she has gotten really big but today I have noticed a tiny white thing under her where she would give birth from. I`m just wandering if this is normal just before birth or is something wrong with her???
I think its normal but unsure as I have read somewhere else that someone elses platy had the same sorta thing and she ended up dying (not sure if it happened before or after birth). Should I put her into a tank basket to be on her own for a while or just let her stay in the tank? She isn`t being bothered by other fish and is swimming and feeding as per normal. At times she might wonder off into a covered corner to be by herself but she has always been doing this.

Any ideas or thoughs greatly appreciated.

I suspect you are seeing the "white dot" that Livebearer Master talks about in his thread. By some people, that is treated as confirmation that a drop is imminent.

If you are certain she is about to drop then add her into the breeding trap. It will stress her somewhat though so only do it if you are sure. The thing you are seeing sounds like the birth tube, and if she is square like you say then she is probably ready to drop.

Good luck!
