I've had this mickey platy for about 2 years and he's had this problem for the last few months. She constantly has a long, thick, brown/clear colored strand hanging from his butt. At first we thought it was poop but it appears too thick to be that and was wondering if anybody knew what this could be? It falls off but constantly grows back very quickly to be that long strand again. I rarely see her without it being there. It didn't appear to move around (suggesting a worm) but it is hard to tell in the water.

I recently got some new fish and am worried this could affect them as well. Any information to treat her or just telling me what it is would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

Sorry for the poor quality picture but it was hard to capture her staying still!

looks like poo to me. Platies or notorious for being big poopers. How many times a day are you feeding and how much?

Looks like poo to me too. If she has it frequently then, as Akasha rightly points out, it's probably a dietary issue.
