So after being un interested in my husbands fish tank, I am now hooked! (No pun intended)

It is actually quite interesting and I do actually like the fish (as long as he does the cleaning of the tanks) So much so he has now given me my own tank!

Anyway, We have a baby Platy ( the only survivor) who is a few weeks old now and getting big. We also have a new lot of fry which we think are guppies but too small to tell yet. Only about 5 have survived of them.

My question is, Fry (our platy) still doesnt have any colouring. His mum is yellow and black and his dad is either bluey grey or orange and black (not sure what one is the dad) How long will it be until he gets some colour about him?

They can remain colourless for a fair few weeks. You will notice a hue appear first then it will intensify gradually.

Shouldn't be too long before you have got 5 tanks running then...

Ok so he is actaully a she! So that is cool. She is looking to be kind of green tinted with some red and black stripes down her beck? Still a bit early to really tell.

Spotted more tiny Platy fry in the tank and some guppy fry as well! Plan is to wait until they are bigger, put mixture of the fry in my tank and give the rest away. Phew this is turning into a full time hobby and I am obsessed!!!!

Sometimes it can take a few months before the fry are sexable. I have fry that are about three months and the male parts are just now starting to take shape (I think of my 5 3mo juvies, i have 3 fem, 2male)
