Platy Breeding Traps Etc.

Ok. Thanks. I will take a look at getting some java mods online

Thanks again

I bought that same net trap off ebay. The fry were so small they would escape through the netting. I have a plastic trap which I put the fry in when I find them. I don't bother putting the female in.

Ok, that's interesting to know :) Thanks! I think i will go an buy the two traps from P@H :)

Thanks

I am going to my LFS tomorrow to get some java moss and the breeding traps etc, so would it be worth getting some livebearer liquifry or tetramin baby or something along those lines instead of ground up flakes?

Crushed flakes are fine. I use tetra min until they are about a month old then just crush up flakes.

i'd use liquifry for a few days and then some kind of fry flakes - fry probably have different nutritional needs to adult fish.

Ok, Thanks! I will take a look at my LFS tomorrow, and see what they have :)

Could I upload a few photos to ask if they look pregnant or not?

I've read on here that liquifry can foul up the water. I've always used TetraMin baby and had good results with it

What I do for fry food is get a ziplock bag put a couple of pinches of flake/pellet food in the bag. Then, close the bag but not all the way. Get a rolling pin and crush the food into a powder.

That seems to work for my fry. :good:

Thank you!

I went to my LFS before I read these posts and went and bought the livebearer liquifry :(

I have 6 little fry to feed now :)

How much TetraMin baby should I feed? I managed to pick up some today! I have 6 3 day old babies at the moment, but I dunno how much to give them! It seems quite hard to get a small enough portion

If you are feeding fish that are only 3 days old, feed several times each day with whatever you find acceptable. The tiniest of fry can only eat so much at each meal but should receive food rather steadily. That will mean many small feedings each day. Small portions are indeed difficult to judge but you can always remove any uneaten food at 15 to 30 minutes after the feeding. That way the fry get plenty to eat but the water quality is maintained too.

Ok, thank you! I am surprised at how quickly they're growing! Is it important to feed the fry something else after the grow over 1cm? I went with the Marina 3 in 1 hatchery in the end ( I took a risk!) and I have found it to be brilliant! They are secure and it's easy to clean :D
