I am thinking of a low ph tank, seriously low, could go as low as 4.5 but I'll try and keep it hovering just above 5.

What plants can live in such an environment?

Nothing too big, It has to fit a 90 litre tank. An amazon sword will fit, but it would be pushing it a bit.

I'm guessing we're talking low hardness and conductivity to achieve this. That'll limit your selection more than anything else.

You should be good with swords, as you've said.

Avoid vallis, I've always struggled with it in soft water, I suspect that it likes the calcium.

I've got myriophyllum growing well in very soft water, as well as various hygrophilas. I do wonder about staurogyne repens, I suspect that they ought to grow well in those conditions.

Oh, and you should get at least temporary success from the bulb plants, but how long they thrive may depend.

Yeah, I'm talking soil substrate, leaf litter and almost pure RO water.

Yes vallis relies mostly on bicarbonates for its carbon uptake, and in soft water with no bicarbonates...

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll definitely look them up, but regarding the bulb plants, I'll give them a miss. The only bulb plant I've ever managed to grow properly is one tiger lily that is "infesting" my discus tank. Any other that I tried just couldn't make it.
