Just wondering if it makes any difference if I add the plants before or after the cycle?

Hi
Whenever i sell someone a new fish tank i always get them to get plants, think about it...it helps the mini ecosystem start up because as you may already know plants take up nitrates for make protiens or amino acids. Although nitrates arent genrated by the nitrobacter until around the 25th day, nitrates in tap water can be up to 40 ppm
So yeah, put some plants in when you 1st set up the tank

Starting off a new 20 gallon tank, with live plants, how long should it take to cycle, and how much longer would it take without plants?

It should take about the same amount of time, but then again every tank is different. Rose
