many thanks for you ideas :good:

Depends a lot on how much or less maintenance you will want to have and what the look is going to be. There are many good options for plants and their locations but as a starting point you could look at this some ideas

Hope you have some joy soon good luck :good:

I'm looking for low ish maintenance and wanting to learn and build up,
the link dont seem to work m8... its now working

Try this for a very low maintenance list then, maybe what you are looking for

Hygrophila difformis
Vallisneria nana
Ludwigia repens 'Rubin'
Bacopa caroliniana
Cryptocoryne becketti "petchii"
Echinodorus tenellus
Taxiphyllum barbieri

would go nice with the rocks theme also :good:

cheers i will look them up, ideas what to plant where ?

cheers

Maybe

Hygrophila difformis - back left hand side of tank

Vallisneria nana - back of tank next to Hygrophilia

Ludwigia repens 'Rubin' - back right hand side of tank

Bacopa caroliniana - in front of Ludwigia

Cryptocoryne becketti "petchii" - in front of Vallis

Echinodorus tenellus - in front of the tank

Taxiphyllum barbieri - on top of rocks

No Co2 just a small amount of ferts and your good to go :good:

thanks ive had a few of them before in the river reef but thats been stripped as im selling it soon, only prob i had and i no its not the plants its the tank being new was browm algae,

so should i build it up slowly or just bat the brown algae out if i get it, when planting does it matter if there near the intake for the filter or close to the heater??

i also think i may need to add alittle more sand

Nice layout there Spurry :good: in fact i think this has massive potential if planted right. Just remember that in an Iwagumi, you only want to use a minimum amount of plants

have a read of this

http://www.aquajournal.net/na/iwagumi/introduction.html

and this

if you're going low tech, then have a think about using mosses as your carpet.

Would paint the back of the tank black as well will look a lot better :) IMO

noooooooooooo, don't paint it!

Iwagumis look so much better with a nautral background. Have a look around at Amanos iwagumis.

as for the plants, you need to limit the amount of plants. You have to have it well planted, with mayber 3 or 4 types of plants. A carpeting plant would look great in there. Using maybe, some moss or Riccia. Then a few well placed crypts. Stay away from the vallis in Iwagumi and go for something like Eleocharis Vivipara.

i have seen that there normaly clear,

im heading for that look, but i tend to stray as well :hey: so it may have a twist

ooh whats all this about carpets :look: dont no if ive the no how to care for that

Carpets just refers to the effect of the small grass type plants when they are planted in a five star pattern at first then grow to cover the ground. Almost all of them will require little attention, maybe the usual trim when they grow upwards depending on the look you want. Almost all will grow both with and without Co2 but will grow very quickly with the Co2 addition.

Hope this helps you a little :good: .
