Planting Bogwood, Need Help

bought some java fern in the hope of getting it to plant onto my bogwood.

i was told to tie it to the wood with fishing tackle. i have done this but im wondering if the roots attach to the bogwood or do the roots need to be in the gravel?

this is a pic of what its like at the moment.

No you don't put the roots under the gravel they attach to the wood

yes theyll wrap round the wood, just a little hint, make sure the rhizome is getting good flow, then the plant will thrive
