Plant Selection - What Would You Do ?

Very good points made above, I am by far an expert on ferts that's why I always just used ADA step 1 - 2 - 3 because its simple just add the amount recommended depending on how long your tanks been setup, down side is its expencive ! But always had good results. As for the powder, iv never used it and the only reason I was considering it is because my substrate has been used so would have lost most of its nutrisanal value. I have done loads of research online but I always find conflicting info all over the net so it's hard to find a good 'guide' to ferts.

So what does N+P+K stand for ? I use trace elements and liquid carbon.

Any advice on good ferts and/or a good routine would be much appreciate.

N - Nitrogen - (Usually Nitrate)
P - Phosphorous - (Usually Phosphate)
K - Potassium - (Usually er, Potassium)

As far as depleted substrates go - if you dose the water column and the substrate has a good CEC values then it shouldn't deplete as such. It will just change over time. Losing the ammonia (excellent N) is it's biggest loss - But as said above, this can be replenished with Osmocote or Tropica Capsules, TNC Plugs if you want something off the shelf.

As for dosing I guess you have to choose what you want to do - An alternative to ADA would be dosing Seachem or Easylife or ELOS (maybe not ELOS, they're on some kind of ADA designer trip) - they do the individual NPK nutrients in liquid form.
Going simpler still you could buy the chemicals individually and use a site like this one to guide you.

Another option would be a Complete fert like Tropica PGSF, TNC Complete or Neutro+ or again, you could use that link to have a go at making yoru own version.

Loads of options....too many? lol

Perfect amount ! Options are good lol I will have a look in to them later after work. I use seachems products on my mbuna tank (lake salts and buffer) they work great ! I will have a look at there ferts for sure.

I have never doses N P or K in my tanks (not individually anyway) iv got some research to do tonight lol

Thanks for all the I do matey.

I am in the process of setting up a 60L planted tank and would like to get your advice on what plants you would pick in the selected area's in the photo below.

The tank will be high tech setup with custom made LED lights (by Ps3Steveo) pressurised Co2 and ferts (depending on the plant list I choose)
