Hi there,
Im thinking of changing the appereance of my 2.5 gal betta tank,it looks so dull at the minute. With just blue gravel and fake plants,i feel sorry for my betta and my newt and ADF! :(
So,how do you go about changing gravel,do you just take all the water out, take the gravel out, then put in the new one,and put the water backi in or new water? But what happens to all the bacteria? Will i need to cycle it again or can i add the fish back in straight away?
Thanks alot

take the fish out with some water and put into buckets or whatever. Take out water and keep as much as you can, take out nasty bright gravel and chuck away, add new natural gravel, plants and replace the water and fish. Don't forget to get the water up to temperature before adding the fish. You will probably lose some of the old water but that's ok , treat it like a water change.

I would place your fish ( and newt ) in plastic fish bags ( full of aquarium water ) and then put the remaining tank water in a bucket...

If you've got a filter, then put that into the bucket of tank water as well...

Now take the gravel out, ( might as well give the tank a cleanout while your at it ) and repace with the new gravel...

Then put the aquarium water back into the tank and then add the fish back too...

Thanks for the replies! Im going to do that newt week then with some nice natural sand maybe :good:
