Planning My Fish Stock

Hi again,

I've come for more advice, as everywhere you go people have diferent opinions and I wanted to see what fishforums users think.

Tank is going to be a Rekord 600 600mm x(w) 300mm(d) x 400mm(h), works out to be 72 litres. It will be planted and have a peice of bog wood. My son is 3 so I wanted to make the tank interesting for him.

Stock I am hoping to have is

6 neon tetras
6 Galaxy Rasboras
1 Bristlenose pleco
2 Dwarf Gouramis
and some shrimp is possible 3 or 4.

Is this too many or could I happly put a few more in?

Your all good there apart from the pleco. It will soon out grow your tank and it would prop stunt its growth and over all heath been in that sized thank.

Also try and get a male and female Gouramis pref 2 femails to 1 male other wise they will fight. You could have a lovely golden apple snail, sure your son would love it

Agree with above really, swap the bristlnose plec for a pitbull plec - up the numbers of the rasbora to 8 or 10 and get a trio of the gourami 1 male 2 female (males have longer dorsal fins)

With the shrimp start off with 5 or 6 and you will soon see them multiply over the next few months.

One other question, has anyone here used angel aquatics in selly oak birmingham? if so whats there opinion?

Just want to say you might want to look into Otos/ Dwarf Suckermouth. Very fun fish and if you change the Pitbull plec for these, you could easily house around 6 Otos. Not many fish shops sell Pitbull Plecs

I've heard that Pitbull plecs can be quite hard to feed in tanks; I'd go for Otos in a tank that size tbh.

Would only go for one plec in a tank that size, and a pair of dwarf gouramis (m/f).

Might also be worth getting two large schools of 10 (say 10 galaxies and 10 chillis) as they'll interact better in larger groups and it will look much nicer with bigger schools.
