Hello

My low tech planted tank is going quite well, it is 86L, but I have a thick layer of ecocomplete on the bottom. I have planted with quick growing plants, and they all seem to be showing new leaves (the anubia has some diatoms on it though...I started another thread about that, more unsightly than anything atm)

I have 4 Lemon Tetras, they have grown and seem really happy.
I have just added 3 Platies today.

I'd like a peaceful community, so I'd welcome any suggestions please.

I do like bettas (but was concerned they might not get on with the others or limit what else I can keep in a small tank), so I thought maybe guppies instead, I like emerald corys for the bottom of my tank (but I don't have sand, I have the eco-complete which looks bit like charcoal, so any help please!

What is the most I could comfortably stock? I don't want to overstock or overcrowd regions of the tank.

many thanks

you could have a betta, either one male or a bunch of females, they are only aggressive to fish that look like them like guppys and such so if you get bettas dont get anything else, they are also vunerable to fin nippers.

id refrian from cories if the substrate looks like charcoal their stomachs are abit sensitive

have you considered a shoal/school of otos? they are fun little fish and eat diatoms as well without harming the plants.

thanks for your help :) I like the sound of the otos and the corys - so depending on how much room I have left in my tank I'll have to decide - is it 2" adult fish per gallon? as a guide, or 1" per gallon? I can never remember

I don't think the ones I have are fin nippers, would a betta get on with the platys? otherwise I think a few guppies :)

i would think a betta would be fine with your fish imo :good:

with your tank youd be fine with a betta and schools of both ottos and cories :)

and the imo useless guideline is 1" per gallon
