Plan B

I have friends and family that want kribs because they haven't seen them in the shops for ages and I have made sure they can care for them. I am getting the male paradise fish a 10 gallon tank, to be alone.

Cheers,
Paradise<3!

Are you sure they will actually take them though? Alot of people will say it at the time but when it cones to it dont have the room or dont want them.

I think getting a 10G for it is a bit of a waste of money because its still not going to be big enough long term so you would be better of using the money to but a 20-30G tank.

How will 10 gal not be big enough?
It will be at least 2ft long. I can't fit a 20-30 gal because of the 4ft I'm getting.

Cheers,
Paradise<3!

Because they get to 4" and are fairly acitve. I would say 24x12x12 VERY minimum which is 15G. Sorry but if you dont have the room for a 20 or 30G just to keep your current fish how do you plan on looking after 40+ krib fry, if you dont have the room to keep the fish you have now i really dont think you should be planing to breed.

That's not true. I have a 24x12x12 and that's 12 gal, unfortunately this has Alex the axolotl in it so no fish allowed.
I've decided that as I will be getting the 4ft ASAP I will use the 2 filters that are cycled(the one in the 15 gal and another that I have got as a spare)to speed cycle(or whatever it's called)and then I will move the kribs into that tank. Is this a better idea? Though this does limit my choice on other fish and I was hoping for an RTBS in the 4ft but that's gone out the window now.

I'm glad that's settled. What fish could I have with them? Obviously I would need a bigger filter because the one I have in the 15 gal can only take 24 gallons... Any suggestions? Can't be too expensive.

What are the measurements going to be? because obviously there will be a big difference in stocking between a 4x1x1 and a 4x2x2.

To be honest in a 4 foot tank you could easily accommodate all of the fish in question here ie. the Kribs and both Paradise fish with a RBTS I dont see a problem with that at all.

Whats the total capacity of the 4 foot tank as it can range from about 40 gallons to 120 gallons depending on the other dimensions.

But so long as its around the 250 liter mark then those 5 will live pretty well together. The Paradise fish will take up territory in the upper levels and the kribs will take theirs on the ground. Then the RBTS will probably take up the rest of the bottom of the tank leaving you room for some nice schooling fish - maybe like Congo Tetras or Denison Barbs, some kind of Danio would be nice. A small plec or two would do nice in there as well like a BN or bull dog or any of the other small growing species.

If you want to go for a more peaceful version of the RBTS go for a rainbow shark these have all red fins not just the tail and are a little more peaceful in a tank.

Then in the smaller tanks how about restocking them with some smaller growing fish that you like :)

Also just incase your ever in the area this is fishincs website http://www.fishinc.co.uk/ its well worth a trip even just to look around - we all have our favorite shops but this one is really special :)

I'm glad we have sorted the differences out now. I don't actually want to put the paradise fish in with the kribs as the paradise fish is terrorising them. He will not leave them be! They won't fight back though because he's flaring at them and they think he's bigger than he actually is. They try getting away but even if they go in the plant pot's he finds them and then the chase begins again. I would like to just keep the male paradise fish and get rid of the female. It's not that I don't like her it's just they are like betta's, you can't keep 2 together in the same tank without fighting, unless you have lot's of plants. I can't keep a planted tank as I can never find any ferts for the more complicated plants and my plants die anyway.

Edit: I think the tank is 48"L 12"W 24"H.

Hah this made me chuckle. Your friends and family havnt seen kribs in a shop for a while. I don't know where your from but if any of your LFS don't have kribs they have some odd satocking choices. Thats almost like saying you've never seen a guppy, molly or platy in a shop. Kribs are common as muck these days, for somewhere not to stock them is quite odd in this day and age.

Even I had a hard time finding them, especially a pair.

Found the male dead yesterday... No signs of any illness or marks(like bite marks or attack marks)

Probably stress due to being constantly harrassed by the paradise fish.

Sorry for the loss :(

What were the water stats like in the small tank? As Bricko said stressed fish die easily to be honest and once they get past a certain point they often do just tail off and die often they stop eating properly.

Again sorry for the loss, all you can really do with a fish death is learn from it and not make the same mistake again (if avoidable)

The thing is.... The paradise fish left them alone and he was eating perfectly fine, no loss of colour. He was in the big tank with the female.
