Right new plan, Both kribs are in the smaller tank till they grow up a little bit. When they have grown up some they will be moved into the 15 gallon.
The smaller tank has the female paradise fish in and they get on with her better than the male, she stays away he didn't. There is a boat ornament in the smaller tank that is very suitable for them to breed in. The female has her breeding tube slightly down, the male doesn't. They are both very bright in colour, brighter than they were, and the female keeps "shimmying" in front of him. The thing is, the male was picking up sand and vibrating with it in his mouth in front of her. Also he won't let her in the boat ornament, but he's accepting her attempts to "woo" him... The only time she can go in is if he leaves it for a while, but when he sees her near it he chases her off.

Male guarding the boat.

(Look closely and you can see her breeding tube)
Female taking her chance to peek inside.

Any ideas why he's doing this to her?
Is this in the right section?

Hi how big is the small tank that the kribs are in at the moment?

To be fair they look to be a reasonable size at the moment. I wouldnt really keep them in anything smaller than the 15g for more than a week or two its no space at all for a territorial fish often problematic cichlid like kribs - especially if its a pair.

Also with a paradise fish in there as well it would seem extremely squeezed in there with these 3 fish.

They will hopefully be going in the 15 gallon soon because they have grown a little bit. They really don't get on with the male paradise fish who is also in the 15 gallon because there is no where else for him. I can't swap the male and female round though because the male is about 3-4" long and still growing. I am getting 2 more 6 gallons though because in the future I'm breeding the paradise fish, not till I have time, money and experience though. The reason I moved them is because they could get no peace from the male paradise fish in the 15 gallon.

Im not surprised your having problems to be honest mixing these fish in a 15 gallon tank is not a good idea nor is keeping the paradise fish in a 6 gallon tank. To be honest if you want to keep all these fish you would be better off with a 30 gallon tank and the 15g and this other smaller tank as breeding tanks to raise the young in.

Cichlids are great fish as are most fish termed as semi aggressive like the paradise fish, its not really that they are aggressive just intelligent and have adapted to give instinctual responses of flaring or fighting if need be. Which for us as fish keepers have to be aware of and deal with in a fare and humane manor and in the main and easiest way of doing this is providing and adequate sized tank for them to grow and live in and to be honest a 15 gallon tank is no permanent or semi permanent home for 4 fish that grow to over 4 inches each I mean these are fish that get to a decent size and all of them have reputations of needing territories that are just not going to be met by a 15 gallon tank.

Sorry to be harsh but separating these fish into smaller tanks is not the answer getting a larger tank for all of them to live in is going to be the answer but if thats not an option perhaps look at alternatives to the fish you are keeping, I saw on your profile your from Sheffield and you have one of the best fish shops in the country there Fish Inc so I mean finding nice beautiful smaller growing cichlids and antaboids is not an issue :) They also rehome fish as well if need be but Im hoping it wont come to that for you :)

I really don't want to get rid of my male paradise fish... He's an albino and he cost me £6. A bigger tank is an option but I was hoping for some larger fish for that tank, including an RTBS.
I might get rid of the female but it's not her who is the issue. I can't even get a decent 10 gallon for the paradise fish because we are limited on space and we have only planned for the other 4ft and possibly on or 2 more 6 gallons...
I don't go to fish inc, I don't even know where it is. I go to middletons which have improved greatly and have new people who actually know how to look after the fish. The guy who served me actually showed me a picture of his 15 gallon and it was the exact same as mine. He had a fully grown adult paradise fish and a fully grown pair of breeding kribs in that tank with no problems.

Four, four inch fish are not suitable for a 15 gallon tank end of story really. The issue here is not the aggression levels between the fish right now if the kribs look to small to go in a 15 gallon tank its going to be a few months but there will be problems if you try and mix these fish.

And so far as keeping any kind of fish this size ie around 4 inches in a 6 gallon tank its just not right its just total disrespect and lack of care for your pets.

I agree with Wills on this. Just because a tank looks fine in a pic doesnt mean it really is or will be long term, when i first started in a 15G i had 2 Common plecs, 1 Cory, 1 Upside down catfish, 2 Glowlight tetras, 3 Mollys, 3 Platys and 3 Guppies in a pic it looked like there was nothing wrong with the tank but there really was alot of problems. You would be best of getting either 2 20G and have a pair of kribs in one and paradise fish or a 30-40G for both pairs in the other but if im honest if your struggling for space that much that your thinking of putting a paradise fish in a 6G then i dont think keeping pairs together because what happens when they lay 50+ eggs each.

It's 3, 4" fish not 4....
The kribs are back in the 15 gallon as they were starting to look a little cramped in the 6 gallon, they had been in their a few days and had grown quite a bit.
The kribs and paradise fish are getting on better than before now the kribs have grown a little. The reason the paradise fish was being a bully is because the kribs were smaller than him, they still are but they are closer to his size now.

I care for my pet's very well and like I said, the female is going back to the shop. The male however is staying. Even if I have to squeeze a 10 gallon tank somewhere for him to be alone.

I'm not breeding them. The female is going back.

The kribs, yes. The paradise fish, no.

Thats what i mean though if you havent got the room to house the adults in a big enough aquarium what are you going to do with 50+ fry and what happens if you can sell them because kribs arnt exactly the most wanted fish so when your stuck with 50 1" kribs there could be some real problems.

I already have homes for at least 40+

Edit: I've been told by people on here that 15 gallons is fine for breeding the kribs in but that they may attack the paradise fish, which I understand, and that I would also have to move the young babies out as soon as mother left them be otherwise she would attack them because of the smaller space.

the easiest thing is to either get a larger tank or rehome the paradise fish it does not matter if it looks ok your disregarding the fishes interests and health i also fnd it hard to believe there are 40 people in the country that want kribs let alone fry

imo

I have friends and family that want kribs because they haven't seen them in the shops for ages and I have made sure they can care for them. I am getting the male paradise fish a 10 gallon tank, to be alone.

Are you sure they will actually take them though? Alot of people will say it at the time but when it cones to it dont have the room or dont want them.

I think getting a 10G for it is a bit of a waste of money because its still not going to be big enough long term so you would be better of using the money to but a 20-30G tank.
