I am going to be moving and the house that I am moving into has a wood burning fireplace in the living room. About the only place to put my 55 gallon is going to be about 10' from the opening of the fire place. Is this going to be to close to it, and mess with the heat of the tank?

maybe, its not a good idea to have it near a fireplace. They do expell a lot of heat.

I hope that I'm not giving you bad advice here but.... my 33 gal sits about 5 feet from a gas fireplace and I have not had any problems with the temp rising too high during the heating season. The firplace is in the basement and it pretty much heats the entire house. The tank temperature seems to stay about the same as the room temp of around 75 or so. Even with the fireplace running all day, the heater still kicks on occasionally to keep tank at 76-77. The room temp may get above that but it's for short periods of time, not long enough to cause the tank temp to rise much more than 77. As long as you keep the room temp at or lower than the tank temp my guess is that you will be OK.
