Been digging around on the web and at a couple of LFS and NSLFH (no so local fish shops) about the pipe work needed for the marine set-up and have been advised to use only Marine grade pipe supplied by them!

With this in mind I began to wonder what was ment by marine grade??

The simplest definition I could get was: PVC Class 'E' pipe with EPDM seals in the valves

So did some more digging and turns out that the PVC is exactly what it means it’s made out of
Polyvinyl chloride

The Class 'E' means it is has a max working pressure of 15 BAR at 20 Degs/Cels

And as for the seals EPDM: Ethylene Propylene Rubber is the gaskets used for the valves

Now the Question I have for you is that I could get the parts I need through my NSLFS for £22 (marine grade pipe)

OR

From a pipe company for about £12 (the equivalent of marine grade)

What would you do??

When I set up my closed loop I looked into getting the Piping, Valves Etc. from a supplier that I buy similar items from, but they couldnt guarentee the stuff would be 100% safe so I paid the extra & got the pukka stuff

Does anyone know a good company for the good marine PVC stuff?? finding it a bit hard to get hold of it!

I've just ordered a load of them :D

I agree with Chac, pay the extra and you know that you're getting top notch stuff. You may also find that the cheaper stuff only comes in white whereas the marine stuff is usuallly grey (looks nicer in the tank)

I don't know about im the UK, but in the states color makes no difference. Everyone uses regular sch 40 (just defines the thickness) pvc pipe. It comes in white (for plumbing purposes) and grey (for electrical purposes. The actual material is identical though. I guess specs may be different though outside of the US.

I went with the good stuff and got a bit of a discount becaus I metion a few names!!:hey:

£19.02

Plus a cople of doble union ball valves

total of £32.04 :D

one happy chappy

Now all i have to do is finish the stand and get the tank drilled and i'm all set!

Oh! got to get the lights and the sand and the LR and the hydomeater and the nets and the salt and the clean up crew and then and only the the live stock!

May need some timers for the lights and may need another powerhead (got 11x turnover at the mo)

Sh*t got to get the RO water

Nearly there
