Just had a call from my lfs to tell me they ahd got some more amano shrimps in for me. When I asked him what else he had he said he had some pink Rams.

Has anyone ever heard of these before. He claims the supplier doesn't supply dyed fish but even he has doubts over these.

Will pop down to the lfs tomorrow lunchtime to check them out.

Never heard of pink rams :dunno: , perhaps he is referring to some other fish that he doesn't know the real name of, either that or they are dyed.

it's not just the Golden Ram (that has a lot of pink) in too ? :dunno:

Nope bloozoo, the info I've read about pink rams pointed towards a seperate colour morph from blue and gold rams. There could be instances of dyed gold rams being sold as pink rams for all I know (I've never seen one in person after all), but the existance of pink rams as far as I could tell was valid.

Perhaps he meant Bolivian Rams, they have a pink tinge to them.

Here's one of mine..

wow stunning pic !

Bolivian "rams" are some times called:
Bolivian Butterflys
Butterfly Ram
Red Rams
Ruby rams
Red Ruby Rams
Pink Rams
Geophogus Ram
two spot rams
and the list goes on.
Great ram Paul
Heres a full grown adult breeding(well used to, had to give up his mate) male:

You can see on Pauls' and my ram the pinkish red on their fins, so they probably got the name from there.
HTH :)

Seriously. That's the kind of pic that will turn people towards Bolivians and away from Blues... which isn't such a bad thing, given the overbreeding of the blues at the moment.

Good shot of a fantastic fish.

Just been to see them, they are definitely not Bolivian Rams.

TBH they looked quite stunning but not sure if I am tempted, I have absolutely no idea how to sex them at all. Some of them appeared to be the long finned morph and as I am merely looking for a female to replace my Blue Ram that died I would not feel comfortable about breeding a pink ram with my male blue.

The lfs had them on sale for £4.99 each though.

They didn't look dyed but could have been fed colour enhancing food obviously. I took some pics on my phone so once I get them transferred I will post them, although the quality may be a bit suspect.

very pretty they are indeed  and good pics on your phone camera.

Did you find out what kind they are ? or are they deyed ?

They are not dyed, nor Bolivian.

Obviously from the South East Asian breeding farms. Most of them were the longfin type morph and tbh the pics don't do them justice. They were gorgeous, but my OH seems to be dead set against them.

Also have no idea how to sex them, may have to rely on the dorsal fin.

Those are just gold rams. Pretty fish too, ive seen some around here that have tints of pink to them.
I always rely on dorsal fins when sexing
EDIT: shoud've read more carefully.
If you want to get a pair, buy 3 or 4 and see if a pair comes out of them, then take the rest back, easiest way to do it.
