I know there are a load of different species but I've never kept these but always admired them

I like the Johannas and tapajos. what tank would you recommend for a pair of these and how are they with likes of Bichirs, Fire eels, clown knifes ropefish and plecs? Just curious cos I may get an old tank for a pair if they ain't compatible with the above

Pike Cichlids are generally very aggressive and best kept in species tanks or with MUCH larger fish (that obviously arent going to eat the pike either), pairs are particularly anti social to any tankmates and would quickly decimate all other fish in their tank unless kept in tanks of multiple hundreds of gallons.
Both the species you name are large growing species reaching 12 to 14 inches when full grown, to keep a pair of them you would be looking at the very minimum of a 5x2x2 (150g), a single adult could be kept in a 4x2x2.

I suspected as much. Nevermind I'll put them on the back burner for now but will try and get a cheap 5ft for the garage for them cos they are stunning looking fish
