I'm going to play the devils advocate for a second and ask why everyone is ok with fishing, but not with this?
Don't get me wrong, I go fishing, I love to fish, but I'm the first one to admit that yeah, it does hurt the fish. Don't tell me that hook is only in for a few seconds, I've been fishing, and the average time it takes to get a fish just out of the water is more than a few seconds, plus you have to sit there trying to get the hook out, and understandably they don't enjoy that either. I've also had fish that take forever just to reel in, you have to sit there and basically tire them out until they stop fighting. Did I forget to mention how you let them take the bait and run a little in the hopes of 'hooking' them good?
And you don't just hook them in the mouth. Things happen. I once fought a 24 in catfish for a long while because it just wasn't coming in. When I finally got in on the boat, we found it had been hooked in the belly. Or they swallow the hook, or it gets in the gills?
Plus, how many times has your line snapped? Do you know where your hook is? Ever catch a fish and find it had another hook in it that wasn't yours?
I'm not getting on fishing, but I don't think anyone can sit here and say 'that's so cruel' to a earring that is stationary and purposely located in the fishes mouth, but will sit there and defend fishing as not cruel, because you're only dragging that fish around by that 'earring' in it's mouth as it fights you until you manage to drag it in, where you still have to manhandle it out, and the location isn't always in the mouth.
Glass aquariums people.
They do not mix with rocks.
